Question: What is Neo-Expressionism, how does it differ from plain ol' Expressionism??I must admit that before taking on this project, I had no idea that Neo-Expressionism existed. When I was searching for topics and combing through what seemed like hundreds of links on Google, my teacher asked me to look up a renowned graffiti artist, Jean Michel Basquiat and after having looked at so many classical, neo-classical and baroque style paintings of gods and blue-blooded women in Global History, Basquiat’s vivid colors and rough, slightly violent paintings were a refreshing change. I found out his style of painting was part of the Neo-Expressionism movement, and I knew that this was something I wanted to know more about.
AcknowledgementsWhen I started thinking about the possibilities for this project, one of my first thoughts was impressionist art. Coincidentally, the next day I was given an assignment in a different class on that very same subject, so I decided to pick something else. For this I credit my history teacher, Mrs. DL. If she hadn’t asked me to do a PowerPoint on Impressionism , I wouldn't have went with Neo-Expressionism.
